The Google Place gateway allows you to add content directly from Google's collection of over 95 million businesses and points of interest worldwide, enriching your maps with detailed information across a wide range of categories.

Using Geocode Factory and the Google places gateway plugin you can display airports, trains, business, banks, ATM's, museums, etc, as markers on a map alongside your other markers (from Joomla articles or other gateways like CB, SobiPro, Mosets, K2, etc).

Enter "Wall street, New York" in the radius form. You should see that the map is centered on this street, and the Sobipro markers are reduced to one. But the Google places markers are reloaded. Try it !

Entries from Sobipro
Google places: 40 train stations
Google places: 20 banks

There are 3 makersets in this example:

 • Sobipro data stored on our site: These show our entries in New-York.
 • Google places Trains Stations: Displays 40 trains stations, this value can be set up to 200 entries. Loaded as the quick method (Full), it does not contain the marker tooltips.
 • Google places Banks: Display a maximum of 20 banks. This maximum limit is set by the Details method we have set, and so it contains the marker tooltips.

You can enable and disable any markerset by clicking on the icons above.

The google place bubbles (for banks and train stations) are generated just like any other Geocode Factory 5 bubbles: Using placeholders. The bubble template we have used is the following:

{name}

url:{url}
website:{website}
address:{address}
phone:{phone}
rating:{rating}

When certain information is not available for an entry, the placeholder is simply replaced by a blank (nothing is displayed in it's place).

How To Configure

The Google place markerset type uses the the same features as any other markerset type, except for the last tab, the "Specific settings".

So for example, just like in other cases, you need to define an icon (Marker Icon tab), and the bubble (Template tab).

And in the "Specific settings" tab:

 • select the type(s) of markers you want to include in the current markerset (ex:Bank).
 • select the search mode: Full returns a maximum of 200 entries and Detailed returns maximum 20 entries.
 • optionally, you can select to display only the markers that are open when the query is sent.
 • (See below for a more detailed explanation of each option)

In more detail:

Max Number of Markers: Here you can select the maximum amount of markers to display.

Search Mode: Google places API offers two different modes of search a-) Radar (Full) and b-) Nearby (Detailed). The first is more general and returns less details. This is best suited for a larger geographical area target as it returns up to 200 results each time (query). The other one - Nearby search (Detailed)- is best suited for a smaller geographical target area as it returns only 20 results per query but with more detailed information available to display.

Places Type: Here you can select among the types of locations available to display. You must select at least one type. You can of course select many types together, like in the above example where we chose Banks and ATM's. In the image below you can see the available types in this dropdown (there are more than 90 options available).

Only open now: You can choose between showing all the entries found or only the ones that are open now. "Now" means the time when the request is made by users who are browsing your website (in real time).
